10 Fear Street Books that Would Make Great Slashers

Netflix was tugging on my bloody heartstrings when they released the R-rated Fear Street Trilogy. Growing up, I devoured every Fear Street book my local library stocked, and even bought every one I could find at local thrift shops for roughly a buck a piece. I was obsessed! I guess it’s no surprise that when I went to grad school, I wrote a thesis on slasher cinema. But I musn’t be the only Fear Street fiend who grew up to be a habitual slasher spectator, because as much as I’d like to believe Netflix creates content just for me… they probably don’t.

So, for all you nostalgia junkies out there, I’ve curated a list of ten Fear Streets, taken from the original 51-book run, that just scream SLASHER.

Dear Netflix, all I want for Christmas is 10 new horror flicks.

The Wrong Number 1 & 2

What begins as an innocent prank turns into a dangerous game of cat and mouse when, during a night of making crank calls, Deena, Jade, and Chuck randomly dial a number on Fear Street. Now, a murderer is on the line, and he knows exactly who the pranksters are… and where they live.

THEN…

When Deena and Jade break their promise to give up phone pranks, they soon learn that there are grave consequences. The murderer they dialed a year ago is supposed to be in jail, but he’s found a way to contact them, and he’s made a promise too… revenge.

The Halloween Party

Justine Cameron is the new girl in school. She’s beautiful. She’s mysterious. And she’s throwing an all-night Halloween party at her new house… on Fear Street. Terry and Nikki are thrilled to be invited, but when the lights go out, they realize their night of thrills might actually be a night of real-life horrors.

Ski Weekend

Ariel, Doug and Shannon are headed home from the slopes when a blizzard leaves them stranded, tired, and scared. But luckily, a stranger they met on their ski weekend, “Red,” is nearby, and spots a hilltop lodge where they can take refuge. Only, something isn’t quite right with their hosts. Now, their car is gone, the phones are dead, and their refuge suddenly feels much more like a very sinister trap.

Lights Out

It began as a series of vandalism, a red feather left behind at each crime scene. Now a counselor is dead, and the police say it was an accident, but junior counselor, Holly, knows better. Something is very wrong at Camp Nightwing, and Holly plans to find out what it is. But she better act fast, because she could be next.

Truth or Dare

Dara is snowed in at her luxury ski condo with a hodge podge group of seven. Some are friends, but others are complete strangers. Trapped together for an indeterminate amount of time, they figure a game of truth or dare could be a fun ice breaker. Until the game turns deadly. It seems someone would rather kill then tell the truth.

Dead End

They were all in the car that foggy night… the night someone died at the dead end. They’ve vowed to take their terrible secret to the grave. But someone knows too much, and suddenly it seems the grave might be closer than they thought.

So, I know What You Did Last Summer, Fear Street edition.

All Night Party

Cindy’s friends are throwing her a killer surprise party on Fire Island. No parents. No neighbours. No one at all for miles. Except, of course, the actual killer who has quietly crashed the party, and has eyes for the birthday girl.

Fear Hall: The Beginning & The Conclusion

Hope was so excited for college. A dorm room with her three best friends. A boyfriend on the boys’ floor just downstairs. But the dream quickly turns into a nightmare when her boyfriend is murdered, and the killer is closer to her than she knows.

THEN…

Having fled her dorm room, Hope is now holed up in an abandoned sorority house on campus. But she soon learns that this kind of evil isn’t one she can hide from.
